Frequently Asked Questions

What is Ritual Haus?
Ritual Haus is an integrated wellness practice in Bowen Hills, bringing psychology, naturopathy, and contrast therapy together under one roof. Our approach is grounded in the biopsychosocial model, which means we support the whole person across biological, psychological, and social factors rather than treating concerns in isolation.

Do I need to see multiple practitioners, or can I just book one service?

You're welcome to see a single practitioner or engage across services, whatever suits your needs. Some clients come solely for contrast therapy, others work with our psychologists or naturopaths, and many move between services over time as part of a more integrated approach to their wellbeing.

Where are you located and is there parking?

We're in Bowen Hills, a short distance from the Brisbane CBD. We have undercover visitor car parking. Enter through the driveway to the left of the building.

Psychology
Do I need a referral to see a psychologist?

No. You can book privately at any time without a referral. However, if you'd like to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a referral and a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. Both options are available, and our team can help you understand which suits your situation.

What is a Mental Health Care Plan, and how do I get one?

A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) is prepared by your GP and allows you to claim Medicare rebates on a set number of psychology sessions each calendar year. To arrange one, book a longer appointment with your GP and let them know you'd like to discuss a Mental Health Care Plan. Once it's in place, you can claim a rebate on eligible sessions with us.

How many sessions can I claim under Medicare?

Under a Mental Health Care Plan, Medicare currently provides rebates for up to ten individual sessions per calendar year. Your GP will typically refer you for an initial set of sessions and review your progress before referring for any remaining sessions.

What are your psychology fees, and what will I get back?

Fees vary depending on the practitioner and session type. When you book, we'll confirm the full fee, the Medicare rebate amount if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan, and your expected out-of-pocket cost so there are no surprises. Please contact us for current fee details.

Can I claim through private health insurance instead?

If you have extras cover that includes psychology, you may be able to claim a rebate. You cannot claim through both Medicare and private health for the same session. We recommend confirming your level of cover directly with your insurer before your appointment.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. Sessions are confidential, and your privacy is protected in line with professional and legal standards. There are a small number of legal exceptions, such as risk of serious harm, which your psychologist will explain clearly at your first session.

Naturopathy
What does a naturopath actually do?

Our naturopaths take an evidence-informed approach to whole-person wellbeing, looking at factors such as nutrition, lifestyle, stress, sleep, and digestive health. The aim is to understand the underlying contributors to how you're feeling, rather than addressing symptoms in isolation, and to support your body's own capacity to function well.

What happens in a first naturopathy appointment?

Your initial consultation is longer than a standard follow-up, as it's a thorough conversation about your health history, current concerns, lifestyle, and goals. From there, your naturopath will work with you on a tailored plan, which may include dietary and lifestyle guidance and, where appropriate, practitioner-grade supplements or further testing.

Should I bring anything to my appointment?

If you have recent blood tests or results from your GP or specialist, please bring them along. A list of any current medications and supplements is also helpful, so your naturopath has a complete picture.

Does naturopathy replace medical care?

No. Naturopathic care is designed to work alongside your existing medical care, not to replace it. We'll always encourage you to maintain your relationship with your GP, and with your consent, we're happy to work collaboratively as part of your broader care team.

Can I claim naturopathy on private health?

Some extras policies include naturopathy, though coverage has changed in recent years and varies between funds. We suggest checking your level of cover with your insurer before booking.

Contrast Therapy
What is contrast therapy?

Contrast therapy alternates between heat and cold, typically moving between a sauna and a cold plunge. The practice is used to support recovery, circulation, and nervous system regulation, and many clients also find it a valuable ritual for managing stress and building resilience.
Do I need any experience, or is it suitable for beginners?

It's suitable for beginners. If it's your first time, our team will guide you through how to use the space safely and how to ease into the heat and cold at a pace that's comfortable for you. There's no need to push beyond what feels right for your body.

What should I bring or wear?

Bring swimwear and a water bottle. We'll let you know what's provided when you book. We recommend arriving well hydrated and avoiding a heavy meal immediately beforehand.

Are there any reasons I shouldn't do contrast therapy?

Contrast therapy may not be suitable if you're pregnant, have a cardiovascular condition, low or high blood pressure, or certain other medical conditions. If you're unsure, please check with your GP before booking, and let our team know of any health concerns so we can support you safely.

How often should I come?

This varies from person to person and depends on your goals. Some clients visit weekly as part of their recovery routine, others come more or less frequently. We're happy to talk through what might suit you.

Bookings, Cancellations & Payments
How do I make a booking?

You can book online through our website at any time, or contact our team directly if you'd prefer assistance or have questions about which service is right for you.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule, so we can offer the time to another client. Cancellations made with less notice, or missed appointments, will incur the full fee. Full details are provided when you book and in your confirmation.

Why do you have a cancellation policy?

Our practitioners reserve time specifically for you, and late cancellations mean that time can't be offered to someone else who needs it. The policy allows us to look after both our clients and our practitioners fairly.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major cards and process payment at the time of your appointment. For psychology sessions, any eligible Medicare rebate is processed at the same time, so you only pay the gap.

Can I reschedule rather than cancel?

Absolutely. If something comes up, we'd always prefer to find you another time. Just give us at least 48 hours notice and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Everything you need to know before your first visit. If your question isn't answered here, our team is always happy to help.
